Horses Of Andalusia, Spain

Earlier this month I was in Andalusia, Spain, photographing beautiful horses, enjoying delicious food and wine and the gracious people of the area. The horses were mainly PRE (pura raza espanola or pure Spanish horse) although there were also a few Friesians and Arabians, etc. PRE’s are one of the oldest breeds of horses. The breed was first officially recognized in the 15th century from descendants of the horses that had been on the Iberian Peninsula for thousands of years. As you will see in this and my next few posts they are stunningly beautiful with their powerful build, their grace and agility, and their flowing manes and tails.

Finca El Anfora

One of our first locations was at the equestrian center at Finca El Anfora. Here our hosts and the owners of horses boarded there were generous in allowing us to photograph their animals at the stables. The next day our hosts brought two of their stallions to the nearby beach to photograph them in and around the ocean. A very special treat!

The Beach Shoot

The Atlantic Ocean is just a short drive from the stables. We met our hosts there with two of their stallions on a lovely sand beach. The wind was blowing and the waves were high, but the horses were used to the water and literally dove in. Here are a few shots. And, yes, that is a Teddy Bear in the black stallion’s mouth. 😊 Special thanks to the gentleman who in a wet suit took the horses out into the ocean!

Hope you enjoyed these images. I will be posting more from other locations shortly. And, there are still more images from my African trip to come. If you’ve not signed up to be notified of new posts, you can do so at the top of the page. Thanks for joining me! Cheryl

Thanks so much, Anne! The beautiful horses and wonderful hospitality of their owners is part of making the pictures what they are. Happy Holidays to you, also!
